Repairing A Puncture In The Car Is Easy (If You Know How)

Current traffic regulations require that you carry a system to repair a puncture in the car in your vehicle, but it does not specify which method you should use. Therefore, you can choose one of the different options that we explain below.

Alternatives to fix a puncture in the car

The first thing you should do if you have a puncture is put on your reflective vest, get out of the vehicle and use the triangles to indicate your location.

First of all, guarantee your safety and that of all the occupants of the vehicle

Once we have correctly marked our position on the road, we have different solutions to be able to get back on track:

Spare wheel

It is the most common, but keep in mind that the spare wheel is not always the same as the rest of the wheels. Thus, we are talking about a fifth wheel or the so-called 'cookie':

Fifth wheel: you just have to mount it. This wheel is increasingly in disuse by manufacturers, since it takes up space, is more expensive and requires the user to know how to use the jack. Its biggest advantage is that when you put it you will not have any type of limitation, neither in speed nor in kilometers.

-  Biscuit: it does not have the same characteristics as the other wheels and, therefore, you can only travel 80 kilometers with it at a speed that does not exceed 80 kilometers per hour. The stability of the car can be affected and it is recommended that you use it to go to the nearest workshop. Manufacturers who opt for this option do so because it takes up less space than a normal wheel.

In the video we explain to you in less than 30 seconds how you can change the flat tire yourself

Home kit

Also called the wick method, it is a system with which to fix the car's puncture without removing the wheel and momentarily. It can be purchased at any auto parts store. It consists of a piece of rope impregnated with strong and fast glue. It goes into the wheel, increases the size of the hole and seals the air outlet. That is, it acts like a patch.

Repair kit

It does not take up space in the trunk and it is very convenient to temporarily repair the puncture in your car. It consists of a wrench that allows you to remove the valve from the tire, a new valve, foam or sealant for the puncture and a compressor to inflate the wheel.

This kit has the same limitations as the cookie, and in case of a blowout, or if the hole is very large, it will not work for you.

Run flat

It is a tire whose rubbers have special reinforcement on the sides that allow you to continue driving after a puncture, without the wheel being completely on the ground. Again you have limited the kilometers you can travel and the speed at which you can circulate.

Even though your vehicle is high-end and fits these tires, you must bring a repair kit, because the law requires it.
